SHRM26 is the 2026 edition of the SHRM Annual Conference & Expo, organized by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

Each year, professionals from organizations of every size attend the event. You’ll find HR teams from startups, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, mid-sized businesses, and some of the world’s largest enterprises all learning and networking together.

The conference combines educational sessions, keynote presentations, certification opportunities, networking events, and one of the largest HR-focused expo halls in the world.

For many attendees, SHRM serves as both a professional development event and a chance to see where the HR industry is heading.

Why SHRM Continues to Be the HR Industry’s Flagship Event

Every industry has conferences.

Very few become annual destinations.

SHRM has earned that reputation by bringing together nearly every corner of the HR profession under one roof.

A recruiter can learn from a Chief Human Resources Officer. A People Operations manager can exchange ideas with a learning and development specialist. An HR executive at a global company can share experiences with leaders from fast-growing startups.

That variety of perspectives creates conversations that rarely happen anywhere else.

Another reason SHRM stands out is scale.

The keynote stage highlights where industry leaders believe HR is heading.

The educational sessions reveal what organizations are actively working on today.

The expo floor shows where companies are investing to solve workforce challenges.

Together, they provide a unique snapshot of the modern workplace.

What Makes SHRM26 Different?

Every SHRM conference reflects the priorities of the moment.

Looking at the 2026 agenda, a few trends stand out immediately.

Artificial intelligence is no longer being discussed as a future possibility. It has become part of everyday conversations around recruiting, workforce planning, employee support, and organizational strategy.

At the same time, topics such as employee experience, manager development, workplace culture, and leadership remain central to many discussions.

This combination tells an interesting story.

Organizations are embracing technology faster than ever, but they are also realizing that technology alone cannot build trust, engagement, or culture.

As workplace tools become more advanced, the human side of work becomes even more important.

That’s one of the biggest themes many attendees can expect to see throughout SHRM26.

Who Should Attend SHRM26?

Change Starts with People.
Key Topics Expected to Shape SHRM26

Every year introduces new challenges and priorities.

Several themes are expected to dominate conversations throughout the conference.

Artificial Intelligence in HR

Organizations are moving beyond experimenting with AI and focusing on practical implementation.

Many sessions are expected to explore how AI can support recruiting, workforce planning, employee support, productivity, and decision-making.

The conversation is no longer about whether AI will impact HR.

It’s about how organizations can use it responsibly and effectively.

Leadership and Manager Development

Managers continue to play a major role in employee engagement and retention.

Expect discussions around coaching, communication, change management, leadership skills, and supporting teams through uncertainty.

Employee Experience

Employee expectations continue to evolve.

Topics such as onboarding, recognition, career development, workplace flexibility, and company culture remain major priorities for organizations of all sizes.

Workforce Planning

Organizations continue searching for ways to build adaptable workforces.

Skills development, succession planning, internal mobility, and talent shortages are likely to remain important themes.

Compliance and Employment Law

Employment regulations continue to change across industries and regions.

Many attendees rely on SHRM to stay informed about compliance updates and workplace regulations.

Keynote Speakers and Educational Tracks

One of the biggest attractions of SHRM is the opportunity to learn from respected leaders, authors, executives, and workplace experts.

SHRM26 features an incredible Main Stage lineup anchoring the week’s themes, with presentations including:

Oprah Winfrey: Global media leader and philanthropist, leading a landmark conversation on “Leading with Vision: Building Cultures That Inspire, Include, and Transform.”

Simon Sinek & John C. Maxwell: Renowned authors and leadership experts, delivering powerful, purpose-driven frameworks on modern organizational culture.

Brad Rencher (CEO, BambooHR): Presenting critical corporate technology trends as part of this year’s official presenting sponsorship.

Attendees can also choose from multiple educational tracks covering different areas of HR and people management.

Rather than following a single learning path, participants can create a personalized conference experience tailored to their interests and goals.

The SHRM Expo: Where Ideas Become Solutions

Expo Hall: Where HR Challenges Meet Real Solutions

For many attendees, the expo floor is where the conference becomes most practical.

The SHRM Expo features hundreds of companies showcasing products and services designed to help organizations solve workplace challenges.

Instead of researching vendors online for months, attendees can compare multiple solutions in a single location.

Common categories include:

HR technology

Payroll and benefits

Recruiting platforms

Learning systems

Employee recognition

Rewards programs

Workforce analytics

Employee experience platforms

Corporate gifting and swag solutions

The expo creates opportunities for live demonstrations, product comparisons, and direct conversations with experts.

How to Approach the SHRM Expo Like a Pro

The expo floor is massive.

Walking every aisle is nearly impossible.

A little preparation can dramatically improve your experience.

Start With a Problem

Before attending, identify the biggest challenge your team is trying to solve.

This creates focus and helps you spend time with the right vendors.

Build a Shortlist

Research exhibitors in advance and create a list of companies you want to visit.

Trying to see everything often leads to information overload.

Ask Better Questions

Instead of asking what a platform does, ask how it would solve a specific challenge inside your organization.

Those conversations tend to be much more valuable.

Compare Similar Solutions

One of the biggest advantages of SHRM is the ability to evaluate multiple providers side by side.

Use that opportunity wisely.

Schedule Follow-Ups

The goal isn’t to make buying decisions during the conference.

The goal is to identify strong options for deeper evaluation afterward.

First Time at SHRM? Here’s What Usually Surprises Attendees

Most first-time attendees expect a large conference.

What often surprises them is how much happens simultaneously.

You Won’t See Everything

And that’s okay.

Trying to attend every session, visit every booth, and join every event usually leads to exhaustion.

Focus on the opportunities that align most closely with your goals.

Some of the Best Learning Happens Outside Sessions

Educational content is valuable.

However, many attendees say their most memorable insights came from conversations between sessions, networking events, and casual meetings.

The Expo Floor Reveals Industry Priorities

Pay attention to where crowds gather.

Often, the busiest booths highlight the challenges organizations are most focused on solving.

Comfortable Shoes Matter More Than You Think

Experienced attendees mention this every year for a reason.

You’ll spend a significant amount of time walking across the massive West Building of the Orange County Convention Center.

Save Energy for Thursday Night:

SHRM isn’t all business.

Keep some fuel in the tank for the official SHRM26 After Hours event, which takes over Disney’s Hollywood Studios for an exclusive nighttime networking experience.

The Real Value Appears After You Get Home

The conference creates ideas.

The return on investment comes from applying those ideas once you’re back at work.

Five Networking Tips That Actually Work

1. Set Networking Goals Before You Arrive

Don’t leave networking to chance.

Ask yourself:

Who would I like to meet?

What industries am I interested in learning from?

What challenges am I hoping to discuss?

A little planning makes conversations more meaningful.

2. Use the Event App Before the Conference Starts

Many attendees wait until they arrive in Orlando to download the app.

The most prepared attendees start earlier.

Complete your profile, review attendee lists, and identify people you’d like to meet before the conference begins.

3. Focus on Conversations, Not Business Cards

Networking isn’t about collecting the largest number of contacts.

A few meaningful conversations are often worth far more than dozens of quick introductions.

4. Spend Time Outside the Expo Booths

Some of the best networking happens in coffee lines, hallway lounges, lunch areas, and waiting spaces between sessions.

Leave room in your schedule for spontaneous conversations.

5. Follow Up Within a Few Days

The easiest way to lose a valuable connection is never to follow up.

Connect on LinkedIn, send a quick message, and reference your conversation while it’s still fresh.

Remember Why Everyone Is There

Most people attending SHRM have something in common: they’re trying to solve workplace challenges, learn from others, and improve the employee experience inside their organizations.

Approach networking with curiosity rather than a sales mindset, and you’ll find that meaningful conversations happen naturally.

What We’ve Learned From Multiple Years at SHRM

BlinkSwag Team at SHRM Conferences

BlinkSwag has attended and exhibited at SHRM for several years.

One thing we’ve noticed is that the specific topics change, but the core challenge remains remarkably consistent.

Organizations are always searching for better ways to attract, engage, support, and retain great people.

In recent years, conversations have shifted from hybrid work challenges to employee experience, automation, AI, workforce planning, and recognition strategies.

Yet underneath those trends is the same fundamental question:

How do we create workplaces where people feel connected, appreciated, and motivated to do their best work?

That question continues to drive many conversations across SHRM every year.

Visit BlinkSwag at SHRM26

If you’re attending SHRM26, we’d love to meet you.

Stop by Booth #3565 to connect with our team, see our platform in action, and explore ideas around employee onboarding, recognition, rewards, company swag stores, and global fulfillment.

Whether you’re launching a new employee experience initiative or improving an existing program, we’re always happy to share ideas and learn from fellow HR professionals.

After three years of exhibiting at SHRM, we’ve learned something interesting.

Ask three people from the same company what happened at the conference, and you’ll likely get three completely different answers.

Our CEO sees long-term workplace trends and shifts in employee expectations.

Our VP of Growth focuses on operational challenges, technology adoption, and the efficient scaling of employee programs.

Our Director of Business Development spends her days speaking directly with HR leaders and hearing firsthand about onboarding, recognition, culture, and the challenges of managing modern workforces.

Since our first SHRM Annual Conference & Expo in Las Vegas in 2023, we’ve continued those conversations in Chicago in 2024 and at SHRM Ohio in 2025. Along the way, we’ve watched HR priorities evolve, workplace challenges change, and employee experience become an increasingly important business priority.

Now, as we prepare for SHRM26 in Orlando, we asked three members of the BlinkSwag team of leadership to share what they’ve learned from years of conversations with HR leaders across the SHRM community.

Building Relationships in a Changing Workplace

Abhi GoyalCEO

“As CEO, Abhi looks at macro shifts and how changing corporate landscapes impact how companies value their humans.”

Q: What’s the biggest shift you’ve seen since our first SHRM in 2023?

Abhi: “In 2023, everyone was panicked about fractured hybrid teams. Today, they are worried about AI and skills gaps. But underneath the headlines, the core human question hasn’t changed once: ‘How do I make a distributed workforce feel like a tight-knit team?’ The tech stack changes, but human nature doesn’t.”

Q: Are HR leaders buying swag differently now?

Abhi: “Massively. Gifting used to be a transactional checklist item. Now, it’s a high-stakes retention strategy. HR leaders realize that a cheap, low-quality plastic water bottle with a poorly slapped-on logo actually insults an employee. They want retail-quality, intentional items that mirror their actual brand values.”

Q: What has stayed the same?

Abhi: “The fact that people just want to feel appreciated. No matter how corporate a company is, a well-timed, thoughtful package landing on an employee’s doorstep hits the same emotional chord every single time.”

What HR Teams Are Asking For Today

Alee Raza VP of Growth

“Alee tracks the operational mechanics, the bottlenecks, the tech stacks, and how companies scale culture without losing their minds.”

Q: What is the number one complaint you hear at the booth?

Alee: “Spreadsheet fatigue. HR pros are tired of playing logistics manager. They are completely done with manually tracking home addresses, managing five different vendors, and packing onboarding boxes in a corporate supply closet. It’s a massive drain on their time.”

Q: How has the demand for automation changed things?

Alee: “People want hands-off infrastructure. Today’s conversations are all about scale and integrations. They ask us: ‘Can your platform connect directly to our Workday or BambooHR? Can it auto-ship a welcome kit the second an offer letter is signed?’ (The answer, by the way, is yes).”

Q: What’s one trend that’s officially dead?

Alee: “Single-use junk. HR teams no longer want cheap trinkets that immediately end up in a landfill. They are actively demanding sustainable items and premium retail brands that employees actually want to wear outside of office hours.”

Conversations from the Expo Floor

Darlene ZwolinskiDirector of Business Development

“Darlene lives on the front lines of the floor, talking directly with hundreds of attendees who stop by to check out our latest platform updates and grab our giveaways.”

Q: What’s your absolute favorite part of the SHRM expo floor?

Darlene: “Watching an HR director’s face when they realize our platform has no hidden monthly subscription fees. They are so used to being pitched hyper-expensive enterprise software. When they see our platform is completely free to use and they only pay for the physical merch they ship, you can literally see the weight lift off their shoulders.”

Q: Is there a specific conversation from past years that sticks with you?

Darlene: “A People Director came to our booth with a heavy heart because half of her international onboarding kits were trapped in customs, and some of the rest arrived damaged. She was spending 10 hours a week on logistics rather than on people strategy. Being able to say, ‘Hand that entire headache over to our global team, we’ve got it,’ is exactly why we do this.”

Q: Why do giveaways matter so much at an event like this?

Darlene: “Because it’s a live test case. When we hand someone an incredibly high-quality, beautifully designed piece of merchandise, they experience the exact reaction their own employees will have when receiving a package at home. It takes the idea of ‘recognition’ off the screen and makes it something tangible you can actually feel. “

The Lightning Round: Three Rapid Questions

We threw three fast questions at the whole team. Here are their unfiltered takes:

What challenge are HR leaders most focused on right now?

Abhi: “Maintaining a human, high-empathy culture in a world heavily dominated by digital tools and automated processes.”

Alee: “Budget accountability. Being able to cleanly track and prove the ROI of their engagement spend directly to the CFO.”

Darlene: “Onboarding fatigue. Figuring out how to make a remote hire’s first day feel genuinely exciting, not isolating.”

What’s your top tip for anyone surviving a massive conference floor?

Abhi: “Hydrate, wear comfortable shoes, and spend more time listening than pitching.”

Alee: “Have a clear goal. Don’t just collect random brochures, look for actual, integrated solutions to your biggest operational bottleneck.”

Darlene: “Stop by Booth #3565 early! The best giveaways go fast, and our team has the highest energy on the floor.”

What are you most looking forward to at SHRM 2026 in Orlando?

Abhi: “Catching up with long-term clients who originally found us when we were just a startup at our first SHRM booth.”

Alee: “Running live platform demos on the big screen and showing people how much time our new automated trigger workflows will save them.”

Darlene: “The pure energy of the Orlando floor. Meeting new people, hearing their stories, and solving their logistical nightmares on the spot.”

One Theme Connects Every Single Conversation

BlinkSwag at Over three years of SHRM

Over three years of SHRM, we’ve heard countless stories.

Some were about onboarding challenges. Others focused on recognition programs, workplace culture, distributed teams, automation, or employee retention.

The details change from year to year.

The priorities evolve. New technologies emerge.

Yet one theme consistently appears in nearly every conversation we have.

Organizations succeed when they invest in people.

No matter how sophisticated corporate technology becomes, a company’s ultimate competitive advantage will always be its human capital. Helping organizations honor, celebrate, and connect those humans is what keeps bringing the BlinkSwag team back year after year.

And it’s what we’re most excited to continue exploring at SHRM26.

Come Say Hi in Orlando!

If you’ll be attending SHRM26 in Orlando, we’d love to meet you.

Stop by Booth #3565 to hang out with Abhi, Alee, and Darlene in person for live demos, premium merch giveaways, and real conversations about simplifying your workflow.

Whether you’re looking to improve onboarding, streamline recognition programs, simplify global gifting, or just exchange ideas with fellow HR professionals, we’re always happy to have the conversation.

See you in Orlando.😃

If you’ve spent any time in human resources, you’ve probably come across the acronym SHRM.

You may have seen it attached to professional credentials, local HR chapters, massive annual conferences, training programs, or even listed as a preferred qualification in enterprise job descriptions.

But what is SHRM exactly, and why is it such a dominant, household name in the HR world?

Whether you’re new to the personnel field, thinking about accelerating your career with a certification, or planning your very first trip to the massive annual expo floor, understanding what SHRM does can help you get more value from your career and the broader HR community.

In this comprehensive guide, we’ll cover what SHRM is, its evolution, the certifications and membership options it offers, and why its Annual Conference & Expo has become one of the single biggest events in the global business landscape.

What Does SHRM Stand For?

SHRM stands for the Society for Human Resource Management.

Founded in 1948, SHRM has grown into the world’s largest professional association dedicated entirely to human resources. Today, the organization supports HR professionals, enterprise business leaders, educators, and people managers across more than 180 countries.

Its core goal is simple: help create better workplaces where both employees and organizations can succeed.

Over its 75+ year history, SHRM’s focus has fundamentally expanded. While it began by tracking traditional payroll and administrative tasks, it now leads global research on modern workplace culture, employee experience, talent management, and workforce planning.

A Brief History & Evolution of SHRM

SHRM’s story began in 1948 when it was founded as the American Society for Personnel Administration (ASPA). At that time, personnel management was heavily transactional, focused mainly on processing payroll, distributing basic benefits, and handling strict employment administration.

As corporate structures changed, HR responsibilities grew far beyond paperwork. HR became a vital component of hiring strategy, leadership development, culture engineering, and high-level corporate growth. To reflect this strategic shift, ASPA officially rebranded itself as the Society for Human Resource Management.

Today, SHRM plays a major role in global HR education, executive certifications, workplace research, and professional development.

What Does SHRM Do?

In simple terms, SHRM is the centralized learning ecosystem, research hub, and compliance resource that HR professionals turn to at every stage of their careers. The organization actively tracks and educates professionals across nine core operational areas:

Talent & Acquisition

Culture & Experience

Compliance & Law

Recruiting & Hiring Strategy

Employee Engagement

Employment & Labor Laws

Performance Management

Workplace Culture Trends

Workplace Compliance Risks

Learning & Development

Leadership Development

Public Policy & Advocacy

To keep the industry informed, SHRM channels its efforts into five primary pillars of action:

1. Professional Development

Workplace trends, technologies, and regulations change fast. SHRM helps professionals stay up to date through a steady stream of online courses, live webinars, interactive workshops, continuous learning programs, and specialized industry publications.

2. Certifications

One of SHRM’s most globally recognized offerings is its professional credentialing program. Many HR professionals pursue these certifications to systematically strengthen their knowledge and demonstrate their real-world expertise to employers.

3. Research and Industry Insights

SHRM regularly publishes data-driven research and reports that track micro- and macroeconomic workforce trends. These reports provide organizations with clear visibility into talent shortages, shifts in employee engagement, and the future of workplace demographics.

4. Workplace Advocacy

SHRM helps HR professionals navigate complex federal, state, and local labor regulations. The organization frequently acts as an advocacy voice in public policy, providing clear compliance resources that help businesses make safer, better-informed decisions.

5. Networking and Community

One of the biggest benefits of the organization is the professional community it creates. Members can connect through local SHRM chapters, regional state councils, dedicated online forums, and major professional events, creating clear avenues for career opportunities and shared peer support.

SHRM Membership Explained

SHRM membership acts as an operational toolkit for individual practitioners and teams. Rather than searching the web for generic forms or unverified compliance advice, a standard membership grants direct access to a wide range of verified resources:

HR Templates and Tools: Pre-built job descriptions, interview rubrics, employee handbooks, and policy templates.

Research Reports: In-depth data on salary benchmarking, benefits packages, and remote work shifts.

Educational Content: Access to whitepapers, expert-led webinars, and daily industry news updates.

Community Forums: Digital networking spaces to swap advice and vendor recommendations with global peers.

Financial Discounts: Reduced pricing on certification prep materials, exam fees, and annual conference tickets.

Like any professional association membership, the value you get from it depends entirely on how consistently your team uses the platform tools.

SHRM Certifications Explained: CP vs. SCP

One of the main reasons professionals interact with the SHRM name is to obtain professional credentials. SHRM offers two primary benchmark certifications that demonstrate real-world problem-solving mastery, tailored to different stages of an HR career:

SHRM Credentials – CP & SCP

2. SHRM-SCP (Senior Certified Professional)

Is SHRM Certification Worth It?

While not a mandatory legal license to practice HR, a professional credential functions as a powerful career accelerator for four clear reasons:

Professional Credibility: Certification can demonstrate commitment to the profession and a strong understanding of modern HR practices.

Career Growth: Some employers view certification as a highly valuable qualification when hiring or promoting HR professionals.

Knowledge Development: Preparing for the comprehensive exam helps strengthen your understanding of critical, complex HR topics.

Networking Opportunities: Certification programs often help professionals connect deeply with others in the shared HR community.

While certification isn’t legally required for every single HR role, many professionals find it immensely helpful throughout their careers.

The SHRM Annual Conference & Expo

For many HR professionals, SHRM isn’t just another conference, it’s one of the biggest events of the year.

Every year, thousands of HR professionals come together to learn, meet peers, discover new solutions, and exchange ideas.

Many attendees leave with new knowledge, new connections, and practical takeaways they can use right away.

BlinkSwag has attended SHRM for several years, and every event has felt a little different.

Over time, we’ve seen conversations shift from hybrid work and employee retention to recognition programs, automation, onboarding experiences, and supporting global teams.

The topics change every year, but one thing stays the same: companies that invest in their people create better employee experiences.

Some of the most valuable insights don’t come from keynote sessions. They come from conversations with HR leaders who face real workplace challenges every day.

That’s one of the reasons we continue to attend SHRM year after year.

Tips for First-Time SHRM Attendees

Navigating an event of this scale can quickly feel overwhelming if you don’t go in with a clear strategy. Here is our team’s quick field guide for maximizing your experience:

Go In With an Operational Blueprint: Don’t just wander around collecting brochures and random trinkets. Identify your department’s single biggest workflow bottleneck before you arrive, and actively seek out the vendors built to solve it.

Step Onto the Expo Floor Early: The educational tracks are phenomenal, but the live, hands-on tool innovation happens inside the expo hall. Dedicate focused hours to exploring booths when your energy levels are highest.

Prioritize Quality Over Volume: When evaluating tools, especially employee experience, recognition, or automated gifting platforms, pay attention to the details. If a vendor hands you cheap, flimsy, or generic promo items at their own booth, it’s a direct reflection of the quality and care your remote employees will experience when they unbox a package at home.

Protect Your Energy: Wear incredibly comfortable walking shoes, carry a reusable water bottle, and leave breathing room in your schedule for spontaneous coffee networking.

For HR professionals, Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is more than a conference.

It’s where thousands of people responsible for hiring, onboarding, employee engagement, culture, and leadership gather to share what’s working, what’s changing, and what challenges remain.

For BlinkSwag, participating in SHRM events has become a tradition.

Since 2023, our team has attended SHRM events across the country, including the SHRM Annual Conference & Expo in Las Vegas and Chicago, as well as SHRM Ohio in 2025. Along the way, we’ve spent countless hours on expo floors, attended educational sessions, and had conversations with HR leaders from organizations of every size.

Those conversations have given us a unique perspective. We’ve watched workplace priorities shift from rebuilding culture after years of disruption to creating stronger employee experiences and preparing teams for a rapidly changing workplace.

What makes SHRM valuable isn’t just the keynote speakers or the packed expo halls.

It’s the people.

Every year, thousands of HR professionals arrive with real questions, real challenges, and real stories. Listening to those conversations has taught us as much as any session ever could.

But we’re not there just to listen and learn.

Each year, we arrive with new features, fresh ideas, and a better understanding of the challenges HR teams are facing, much of it shaped by the conversations we’ve had at previous SHRM events.

As we prepare for SHRM26 in Orlando, we’re looking back on the journey so far, the lessons we’ve learned, and how those conversations have influenced BlinkSwag’s growth alongside the HR community.

Why SHRM Matters

SHRM – Society For Human Resource Management

The SHRM Annual Conference & Expo is one of the largest gatherings of HR professionals in the world.

For a few days each year, people leaders, recruiters, HR executives, workplace experts, and solution providers come together to discuss the realities of managing and supporting today’s workforce.

For BlinkSwag, SHRM is more than an event on the calendar.

It’s an opportunity to listen, to learn, and to understand what HR teams are experiencing today and what they expect tomorrow.

It’s also a chance to show how we’re helping organizations solve some of those challenges.

There’s a moment every exhibitor recognizes.

The expo hall opens, thousands of attendees step onto the floor, and suddenly, the workplace trends you’ve been reading about become real conversations happening right in front of you.

Over the years, we’ve seen priorities change. We’ve seen new challenges emerge.

We’ve watched organizations rethink how they approach culture, engagement, recognition, and employee connection.

SHRM has given us a front-row seat to those changes and the chance to adapt our platform based on what HR teams actually need.

SHRM 2023: Rebuilding Culture and Driving Change

Walking into the Las Vegas Convention Center in June 2023, as SHRM celebrated its 75th anniversary, there was a noticeable sense of change in the air.

SHRM 75th anniversary during the SHRM23 Annual Conference & Expo

Organizations had spent the previous few years adapting to new ways of working. Some were bringing employees back together. Others were figuring out how to maintain culture across distributed teams.

Nearly everyone was asking a similar question:

How do we create workplaces where people feel connected, supported, and motivated to stay?

The conference theme, “Drive Change,” reflected many of the conversations taking place throughout the event.

More than 20,000 HR professionals gathered in Las Vegas, bringing with them a shared question: What does a successful workplace look like after the pandemic fundamentally changed how people work?

Topics included:

Talent acquisition and retention

Workplace flexibility

Leadership development

Employee engagement

Organizational culture

Diversity and inclusion

Another topic was also beginning to gain momentum.

HR leaders were starting to explore how new technologies and generative AI tools could influence recruiting, workforce planning, and employee experiences in the years ahead.

At the same time, conversations about belonging were everywhere.

Organizations sought to build stronger connections among employees, especially as hybrid and remote work continued to reshape workplace relationships.

What We Heard on the Expo Floor

One challenge kept coming up at our booth.

HR teams wanted to create better employee experiences, but many were still managing onboarding kits, recognition programs, company swag, and gifting initiatives through spreadsheets, email chains, and multiple vendors.

The problem wasn’t finding products.

The challenge was to create a consistent experience for employees without adding more work for HR teams.

Those conversations reinforced something we’ve long believed:

Employee experience isn’t built solely through policies.

It’s built through moments that help people feel welcomed, recognized, and connected to their organization.

At our booth, many attendees were looking for ways to simplify those processes. We spent a lot of time showing how centralizing swag, gifting, and onboarding could reduce administrative work while creating a more consistent employee experience.

Our Takeaway from SHRM 2023

The strongest lesson from Las Vegas was simple.

Human connection matters more than ever.

The organizations that stood out were intentionally investing in their people and seeking meaningful ways to strengthen culture beyond office walls.

The conversations we had also highlighted opportunities to improve our platform, particularly around onboarding, recognition, and employee engagement programs.

SHRM 2024: Employee Experience Takes Center Stage

By the time SHRM arrived in Chicago in 2024, the conversation had changed.

Organizations were no longer focused solely on attracting talent.

The focus had shifted toward creating workplaces where employees wanted to stay and grow.

SHRM24 drew more than 26,000 attendees and quickly became one of the largest conferences in the organization’s history.

The event also sparked significant industry discussion following SHRM’s announcement that it would shift its terminology from “DE&I” to “I&D,” emphasizing inclusion as the foundation for workplace diversity efforts.

Across educational sessions, keynote presentations, and expo hall conversations, several topics appeared repeatedly:

Employee wellbeing

Mental health

Leadership effectiveness

Workplace culture

Recognition programs

HR technology

Conversations around artificial intelligence continued, but they felt different from the year before.

Instead of asking what the technology could do, HR leaders were discussing practical questions around implementation, trust, and employee adoption.

Workplace civility also became a major topic.

SHRM research reported that many employees had experienced workplace incivility, prompting discussions around leadership, communication, and organizational culture.

Many organizations were trying to strengthen communication, improve collaboration, and build healthier workplace cultures.

What We Heard on the Expo Floor

The conversations felt different in Chicago.

HR leaders weren’t just asking how to send swag.

They were asking how onboarding, recognition, gifting, and culture initiatives could work together as part of a larger employee experience strategy.

There was a growing understanding that employee experience isn’t one program.

It’s the collection of hundreds of moments employees have throughout their journey with a company.

Organizations wanted those moments to feel intentional.

Many attendees stopped by our booth looking for ways to connect these programs rather than manage them separately. Those discussions reinforced the growing demand for automation, consistency, and a more unified approach to employee engagement.

Our Takeaway from SHRM 2024

Chicago reinforced an important lesson.

HR teams don’t simply want vendors.

They want partners who understand the challenges they’re trying to solve and can help create better experiences for employees at every stage of their journey.

It also became clear that employee experience initiatives were becoming more strategic, requiring tools that could support programs across the entire employee lifecycle.

SHRM Ohio 2025: Looking Ahead While Staying Human

While smaller than the SHRM Annual Conference, SHRM Ohio brought together HR professionals facing many of the same workforce challenges being discussed across the country.

When our team attended SHRM Ohio in 2025, many conversations focused on what comes next for the workplace. HR leaders were thinking beyond immediate workforce challenges and asking bigger questions about skills, workforce readiness, leadership development, and long-term growth.

Although the audience was more regional, many of the themes mirrored conversations happening throughout the HR profession.

Popular topics included:

Skills-based hiring

Workforce development

Upskilling and reskilling

Leadership

Employee engagement

Emerging workplace technologies

Artificial intelligence was no longer a future possibility; it had become an active part of workplace strategy.

Many organizations were focused on questions such as:

How can employees adapt to new technologies?

What skills will be most valuable in the future?

How can organizations maintain strong cultures during periods of rapid transformation?

Sessions explored how organizations could prepare employees for future changes while maintaining strong workplace cultures in the present.

Throughout the conference, one message kept surfacing:

The future of work is not only about technology. It is about helping people adapt, learn, and succeed.

What We Heard on the Expo Floor

At SHRM Ohio, many organizations were thinking on a much larger scale.

Discussions centered around workforce development, automation, HR technology, employee engagement, leadership effectiveness, and creating consistent experiences across growing teams.

The conversations had become far more sophisticated.

In 2023, many attendees were discovering swag management platforms for the first time.

By 2025, HR teams were discussing integrations, automated recognition programs, global gifting initiatives, and scalable employee experience strategies.

The expectations had changed.

And the opportunities had grown with them.

Many of the conversations at our booth focused on scale, how to support distributed teams, automate repetitive tasks, and deliver consistent experiences across regions without increasing administrative burden.

Our Takeaway from SHRM Ohio 2025

Throughout SHRM Ohio, one message appeared repeatedly:

Recognition, belonging, and employee connection are not side projects.

They’re becoming core business priorities for organizations focused on attracting, engaging, and retaining talent.

The companies creating great employee experiences weren’t treating culture as an afterthought.

They were making it a priority.

Three SHRM Events, Three Different Perspectives

Looking back on the past three SHRM events, what stands out isn’t how much the events changed. It’s how quickly workplace conversations changed.

In Las Vegas, the focus was on rebuilding culture, improving retention, and helping employees reconnect.

In Chicago, discussions shifted toward employee experience, well-being, recognition, and belonging.

At SHRM Ohio, many conversations focused on skills, workforce readiness, emerging technologies, and what organizations needed to do to prepare for the years ahead.

The topics changed. The concerns changed. The buzzwords changed.

But one thing stayed remarkably consistent.

The organizations that attracted and retained great people invested in employee experience and made people feel connected to their workplace.

For BlinkSwag, those conversations have been equally valuable, helping us better understand where HR teams are headed and how we can continue supporting them.

What Keeps Bringing BlinkSwag Back to SHRM

Every year, SHRM allows us to connect with people who care deeply about the employee experience.

We attend to learn, listen, share ideas, and showcase new solutions.

And the conversations at SHRM often shape workplaces over the next several years.

The relationships built through SHRM continue long after the conference ends. Many of the conversations that begin during the event lead to valuable partnerships, fresh ideas, and a deeper understanding of the challenges facing today’s organizations.

What keeps bringing us back is the community itself.

Year after year, we’re inspired by the creativity, resilience, and commitment of HR professionals who continue to find new ways to support employees through change. SHRM provides a unique opportunity to learn alongside them and contribute to the conversations that matter most.

As we prepare for SHRM 2026 in Orlando, we’re excited to continue the journey.

Every year brings new ideas, new conversations, and new perspectives.

We’ll be returning with the same goals we’ve had since our first SHRM event:

Listen carefully, learn continuously, keep improving, and find better ways to help organizations create memorable employee experiences.

We’re looking forward to reconnecting with familiar faces, meeting new HR leaders, sharing what’s new at BlinkSwag, and participating in the conversations that will shape the future of work.

From Las Vegas to Chicago to Ohio — and Now Orlando

Looking back, SHRM has been more than a conference series for BlinkSwag.

It has been a front-row seat to one of the most significant periods of change in today’s workplace.

From the national stage of the SHRM Annual Conference & Expo in Las Vegas and Chicago to meaningful conversations with HR leaders at SHRM Ohio, each event has provided valuable lessons about where the workplace is heading and what organizations need to support their people successfully.

We’ve seen conversations evolve from rebuilding workplace culture to strengthening employee experiences, preparing employees for change, and creating stronger connections across increasingly distributed teams.

Those conversations have also influenced the direction of our platform, helping us focus on the challenges HR teams are actively trying to solve.

Yet every year, the most meaningful discussions return to the same question:

How do we create workplaces where people feel valued, connected, and supported?

Three years later, one lesson continues to stand out above all others.

Great workplaces aren’t built by policies, platforms, or processes alone.

They’re built by people who care deeply about the employee experience.

That’s a conversation we’re proud to be part of, and one we’re excited to continue at #SHRM26 and beyond.

Heading to Orlando for #SHRM26?

We’d love to hear your story, swap notes on where your culture is heading, and show you how we’ve turned three years of collective HR wisdom into our newest platform features.
